WHY DO SOME CANDLES NOT BURN TO THE OUTER EDGE?

This is called tunnelling. Soy wax has a burn pool memory, therefore you must avoid extinguishing until the melt pool has reached the outer edge of the candle. This means approximately burning the candle one hour for each inch of diameter. For example a 4 inch diameter candle would mean a 4 hour burn initially. If you don’t do this, the second burn pool will only be as large as the first one.

I spend hours, even weeks sometimes wick testing to ensure my candles don’t tunnel. Candles with different diameters/aromas/wax type and container type will all have different sized wicks (something that companies who mass produce won’t necessarily have done).

MY CANDLE IS SMOKING AND HAS A FLICKERING FLAME - WHY?

Generally this is caused by the wick being too long or excess air flow around the candle. Extinguish the candle, leave to cool and trim the wick to 4mm. Make sure the candle is out of drafts, a properly trimmed wick will generate very little soot.

WHAT ARE WOOD WICK CANDLES?

Most candles on the market will have a thin cotton wick to light. My wooden wick candles (probably my best seller) are hand poured in the same way with the wick placed in a small metal holder at the base of the container so yes it does go all the way down through the candle. It is made of two fine slithers of soft wood and the width will vary according to the container diameter and wax type. When lighting a wooden wick it is best to use a lighter and you will need a little patience. Light the wick on either side at the top. The combination of the wood and wax helps to create a quiet crackle sound as it burns. It produces a larger flame and can be quite mesmerising. When you come to relight your candle it is important to gently remove any loose burnt wood for ease of lighting and to prevent it dropping into the melt pool.

ARE YOUR CANDLES VEGAN FRIENDLY?

All my soy wax unscented pillar and aromatherapy container candles are indeed vegan friendly.

ARE YOUR CREAMS, OILS AND SOAPS SUITABLE FOR SENSITIVE SKIN?

All my skin care products and soaps have a ‘Cosmetic Safety Assessment’ and are parabens and sls free. Only essential oils are used to fragrance so my products don’t contain any artificial fragrances. As with any new skin product you purchase, if you have sensitive skin a patch test should be carried out first.
